What is Investor Self-Certification?
Under UK financial regulations, certain investment opportunities can only be promoted to individuals who meet specific criteria as High Net Worth or Self-Certified Sophisticated Investors. This process is called self-certification, and it's required by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Why are we asking you to self-certify?
We offer access to private investment opportunities that are not available to the general public. The law requires us to ensure that:
- You fully understand the risks involved
- You have the experience or financial standing to make informed decisions
- We only promote these opportunities to eligible individuals
What are the criteria?
Three categories apply. You will be asked to confirm the one that describes you, in the prescribed wording.
Certified High Net Worth Individuals
Annual income of £100,000 or more, or net assets of £250,000 or more (excluding primary residence, pensions and life insurance policies), under COBS 4.12.6R.
Self-Certified Sophisticated Investors
Meeting at least one of: member of a business angel network or syndicate for at least six months, more than one unlisted company investment in the last two years, professional experience in private equity or SME finance in the last two years, or a company director (turnover of at least £1 million) in the last two years, under COBS 4.12.7R.
Investment Professionals, Companies or Institutions
FCA-authorised investment professionals, certified high net worth companies, unincorporated associations or trusts with net assets of £5 million or more, or associations of high net worth or sophisticated investors, under the FSMA 2000 (Financial Promotion) Order 2005 exemptions.
What happens with my information?
Your declaration is stored securely, used only to confirm your eligibility, and must be renewed every 12 months. We do not use this information for marketing or pass it to third parties.
What if I don't qualify?
We're not able to show you certain investment opportunities unless you meet the criteria above. You can still access free content, webinars, insights and attend our events, or revisit this process if your circumstances change.
